One of the most important rules of writing is to have someone else look over your work. It’s simply too easy to miss that typo, missing word, extra word, wrong word . . . well, you get the idea.
There are no badly edited books on bestseller lists.
How can I help?
For starters, I’ll help catch all those punctuation, grammar and spelling mistakes. As an added bonus, I can proofread your work in either British or American English. Just indicate your preference at time of contract.
As a writer myself, I bring years of experience to help make your work shine.
In case you’re wondering about my qualifications – and you should – I have been a professional proofreader since 2009. I’ve edited government documents, blogs, newspaper articles and manuscripts from several different genres. I’ve also been a proofreader for a small publisher since 2016 and would be happy to give you more details about me upon request.
If you’re still not convinced, send me a 1,000 word sample.
Light Copy Editing
I’ve added the option of a light copy edit service for those looking for that little something extra. In addition to all the benefits of proofreading, light copy editing includes:
- correct grammar, spelling and punctuation
- point out wordy and awkward sentences
- ensure consistent use of capitalization, punctuation, hyphenation and use of numbers
- note any awkward gaps in logic and confusing or ambiguous sentences
- flag any story inconsistencies – a character’s name was Randy and now it’s Rick
NEW – if you’ve made some significant changes to sections of your book, I will copy edit those sections for free. Up to 10,000 words.
What is the role of a beta reader?
A beta reader will take your finished manuscript and help you make it better.
What am I going to do?
As your beta reader, I’m going to give you honest, specific feedback that will include the following:
- Are you on the right track?
- Does your story flow?
- Does your plot go off course?
- Are your scenes not as smooth as they could be?
- Do scenes go by too slowly, or zoom by in a flash?
- Plot holes? I’ll find them and point them out.
- Is your dialogue forced or unbelievable?
- Are your characters believable?
This is a sample of what I can do for you. I will give you notes at the end of each chapter detailing what I loved and what you need to work on.
Genres: While I’m open to reading any genre, my specialties are romance, women’s fiction, YA, suspense/thriller, urban fantasy, contemporary anything and erotica. I also enjoy historical fiction and steampunk. I am happy to beta read fantasy, science fiction and horror, but they aren’t something I normally read. Maybe that’s a good thing?

It was such a pleasure to work with Anna
It was such a pleasure to work with Anna on my most recent romance novel, EXES. She provided proofreading services for the earliest draft and helped me whip it into readable shape. She was fast, thorough, trust-worthy and professional, and I appreciate the fact that she helped me stay on top of my delivery deadline while also being flexible in her ability to read the final chapters at a future date. She caught so many little spelling and punctuation errors and inconsistencies that it’s impossible to imagine what I would have done without her. She is definitely a part of my “go-to” stable of proofreaders/copyeditors and I’m only sad that I have to share her with other authors!
–Aria Hawthorne, bestselling romance author of EXES, CLOSER and DEVOTION.
Anna did a fabulous job
Anna did a last minute (one week time for a 150K word manuscript) proofread for the second in my series, which is on a preorder deadline, and she did a FABULOUS job. None of my other proofreaders were ever this thorough – and none of them were as aware of US / UK spellings as Anna. She really knows her grammar. The price was extremely generous, as well – though I’m sure she’s going to raise it soon.

Working with Anna was simple, straight-forward, and extremely useful.
Working with Anna was simple, straight-forward, and extremely useful. Her level of professionalism and her talent for improving my work allowed me to promote and publish my stories with confidence. And her rates are extremely affordable. I highly recommend Anna, and will not hesitate to use her services again in the future.
Anna is thoughtful & insightful
I’ve worked with Anna on my manuscript and found her comments to be thoughtful and insightful. Anna’s helped me to be a more complete writer and identified areas where I can improve. She comments with the utmost tact and catches the ‘little things’ that I so often miss while still being respectful of the story I want to tell. I recommend Anna’s expertise to any writer hoping to improve their craft with story development, editing, or polishing their manuscript to a shine.
—Tricia McKee, Author of Moonlight & Whiskey
Anna has a sharp eye
Anna has a sharp eye for missed typos and catching all those hard-to-find errors. She also picks up on plot inconsistencies and when a scene should stay or go. Her ability to catch and point out problems with flow has been invaluable. I couldn’t dream of choosing anyone else to edit my work.
